Elizabeth Gaskell’s House is throwing open its doors this summer to the world of the Victorian children at play. Every Wednesday in the summer holidays, a range of activities will take visitors back in time to when the Gaskell’s daughters would have played in the House. Highlights include circus skills, Victorian theatre and costumed actors with a Victorian craft to take home for each child.

Visitors to Elizabeth Gaskell’s House will now be able to take home a tasty reminder of their visit, with the launch of the new Elizabeth Gaskell’s House blend of loose leaf tea.

Produced by Manchester based loose leaf tea specialist Parched Tea, this new blend is inspired by Victorian Manchester and Elizabeth herself, this tea combines delicate & mellow notes with a caramel & zesty smoothness. The aroma is intense & fresh, the leaf beautifully twisted & wiry.

Elizabeth Gaskell’s House will be giving families the opportunity to explore the beautifully re-established Victorian gardens of this historic house over half term with a new Gardeners’ Explorers Trail.

Running from 31 May – 2 June, the trail will encourage children of all ages to discover hidden spaces, wildlife and plant life in the garden. The gardens have been re-created using many of the plants mentioned in Elizabeth Gaskell’s writing and offer a window into the gardens of the past.
