Volunteering at Elizabeth Gaskell's House

Elizabeth Gaskell's House depends upon our brilliant team of volunteers to open to the public. We continually recruit new volunters as we expand and develop. There are many opportunities for you to get involved, from helping in our tea room, talking to visitors in the period rooms, helping with school and community groups, maintaining our wonderful garden and other behind the scenes tasks.

It is a great opportunity to learn something new, develop an existing interest and meet new friends. Elizabeth Gaskell’s House prides itself on its unique experience – visitors are invited to touch, sit and make themselves at home. It is our volunteers who play a crucial role in providing this experience.

How to apply:

If you are interested in volunteering please contact 0161 273 2215 or email enquiries@elizabethgaskellhouse.co.uk

All potential volunteers are invited to a Volunteer Induction session to find out more about getting involved. We are continually recruiting volunteers so get in touch.

You do not need to know anything about the house or Elizabeth Gaskell - all you need is enthusiasm and some spare time, be that weekly, monthly or even just helping out at occasional events. Full training will be provided as appropriate.

Travel expenses up to £5 reimbursed.
