Bringing history to life at Elizabeth Gaskell’s House!

Pupils and teachers from Cedar Mount Academy have been working with the House to produce a series of films which we launched at a popcorn, pizza and ice-cream premiere today.

Maria Ruban produced the films and our creative partner, enJOY arts jointly delivered the project with us.

The success of Elizabeth Gaskell’s House is down to the dedication of its pool of enthusiastic volunteers who each play a vital role in helping to create everything from the very special atmosphere in the period interiors of the House to the lovingly re-established Victorian gardens inspired by the writings of Elizabeth Gaskell.

Whenever I read one of Mrs Gaskell’s letters I am reminded of those circular radar screens you see in films about the Second World War. The sweeping arm illuminates what appear to be random spots of light on the screen, just as Mrs Gaskell’s pen moves from subject to subject with no immediately discernible connection. I thought I would finish the current sequence of blogs with a similar approach to plants and flowers in the garden. I will just pick whatever comes to mind.
